Ways to influence increasing people’s access to water and sanitation

Broadly speaking, there are two approaches to using human rights to improve access to water and sanitation – the rights based approach and the legal approach. Both approaches fit with the spectrum of the rights framework.
The rights-based approach to development aims to mainstream human rights principles into water and sanitation activities and programmes.
The legal approach promotes the use of law to enforce the protection of human rights.
